The Brookings Public Library will host a Book Dating event starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26. Organizers say the event is like speed dating – but for books. Attendees will have the chance “meet” new titles and genres by taking short stops at different stations to quickly become acquainted with a variety of different books.At the end of the event, participants can check out any of the books they fell in love with throughout the night. American Legion Post 114 will host an all-you-can-eat pancake feed from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Volga Community Center, 109 Samara Ave. The menu includes pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausages, coffee, juice and milk, and cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for kids ages 3-7 years. Proceeds benefit Boys State, Scouting, veterans relief, American Legion baseball and more.

The South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum will host a Cold Process Soap-Making Class from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 28, at 977 11th St., Brookings. During this class, participants will make their own soap to take home with them and learn more about the soap-making process. The cost for this class is $20 for museum members and $25 for non-members (this fee will cover all materials needed). The Beacon Hill Rifle & Pistol Club will celebrate 50 years of existence on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the club’s range, located 4 miles north of Volga on 460th Avenue. Buyer’s Choice tickets are $5 per ticket. Hundreds of donated pieces of artwork will be exhibited and for sale to the public for $20 each in the BAC gallery. A turkey dinner will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at the First United Methodist Church Community Life Center, 625 Fifth St., Brookings. Cost is $10 for 12-year-olds to adults and $3 for kids 4-11 years old. The menu includes turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet corn, pickled beets, cranberry salad, dinner rolls, assorted pies, and coffee and juice.
